World Art Camp

Each week, a different part of the world is explored as campers immerse themselves in the folk tales, music, food, and artistic styles of Africa. Mexico, India, and Japan.

ART OF AFRICA Projects include jewelry making based on African style beading, mud cloth, and handsewn, beaded, soft-sculpture dolls. The natural headdress and face paint of the Omo will also be featured.

ART OF MEXICO Campers will create pieces inspired by the vibrant art of the Huichol, Mayan, and Aztec Indians. Projects include metal craft, milagros, calavera drawings, and papel picado. Contemporary Mexican art will also be introduced.

ART FROM INDIA Henna art, kolam and rangoli designs, miniature paintings, and puppets from the Ramayana are a few of the projects that campers will create as they observe the ornate and colorful folk art of India. Bhangra dance and music will be enjoyed as wIll visits to Indian restaurants and shops.

ART OF JAPAN Classical Japanese art forms such as brush painting, ikebana, and kirigami will be explored alongside more contemporary art forms such as anime, magna, and kyuuto style characters.

ART OF CHINA Young artsits will be introduced to Chinese embroidery, paper cutting, and brush painting methods. They will also explore how contemporary Chinese artist's interpret traditional art forms.

Fine Art Camps

SILKSCREEN WORKSHOP Campers will experience a variety of silkscreen methods as they print hand cut designs to create original t-shirts and posters.

DRAWING AND PAINTING THE WORLD AROUND US  Our young artists will spend their days observing, sketching, and painting the impressions that emerge from life. Techniques using charcoal, graphite, and chalk pastel will be used to render many natural forms and still life arrangements. We will also bring a collection of materials outside to work en plein air ("in the open air") in parks and gardens around town.

INSTALLATION ART  Art is not always made in the studio or meant to hang in a gallery. Throughout this week, our young artists will learn how to take their artmaking on the road - just like Banksy, Andy Goldsworthy, Christo, and our local knit bombers!
